View Full Version : XP startup

Got a new computer with XP preinstalled, and about half
the time when I start it up in the morning after being
shutdown all night nothing appears after startup; screen
stays blank and neither the mouse nor the keyboard is
operable. Tried restarting via the ol' CNTRL-ALT-DELETE
to no avail, and finally shut down via the main power
switch. It always starts properly on the next try,
without the usual messages about improper shutdown,
chkdisk, etc., so apparently Windows had not started
during the previous attempt. I usually leave it on all
day and shut down before retiring for the evening, but
since this problem surfaced I've been shutting down and
starting up a couple of times during the day in an
attempt to isolate the problem, and it always starts up
normally in those circumstances. In short, this problem
only occurs during initial startup, and then only about
half the time. Any ideas, suggestions, etc. will be
gratefully received.

It sounds like a BIOS setting is not correct because if XP where to =
attempt a start the logo would appear and the little bar at the bottom =
would stop part way.Since you are not seeing this I would guess that the =
HD is not being read at all.
Test your warranty and take it backt to have then diagnose and fix.

I concur...if the computer is new, it should run like a charm....Take it
back.
