My Micro windows XP files will not open, other files seem
to function properly.I recieve a message (MICROSOFT IS
HAVEING A PROBLEM AND WILL SHUT DOWN)

I feel I need to scandisk useing the through and repair
check box, My question is what is the proceedure in doing
the scandisk operation with XP ?
Any help would be appreaciated

Scandisk has been replaced by the old standby CHKDSK.
On the Start, Run line type: CHKDSK /SCANNOW.
It also will run on the Windows dos prompt.

If you want 'scandisk' - now known as chkdsk - then Right
Click your C Drive - Properties - Tools - Error Checking -
that is 'scandisk' now chkdsk

sfc /scannow at the Command Prompt is the System File
Check - to replace 'broken' or missing System Files - you
need the XP CD for this one
