I type "diskmgmt.msc" in the RUN dialog box and receive the message "The
service database is locked". The Disk Management window oppens but shows
the message "Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service". Whats
going on? How do I get the Service Database unlocked?

Go to Start - Run and type services.msc and hit enter. On the resulting
screen look for a service named 'Logical Disk Manager Administrative
Service'; right click on it and click Start.
Now try running diskmgmt.msc

Greeting,
Try the sc utility, ship in XP,w2k3, avaiable on w2k resource kit.
C:\sc querylock
[SC] QueryServiceLockStatus SUCCESS
IsLocked : FALSE
LockOwner :
LockDuration : 0 (seconds since acquired)
If it locked, use sc lock to unlock it.
Regards,
Yong
