Cannot delete movie file

I cannot delete a movie file which plays through media player. When I try to
delete it a message says it is being used by another programme.I have
checked and nothing is running,I believe this is a problem with XP any ideas
as I am trying to get some space on my disk

My experience is that the shortcut that automatically appears in the drop
down box of 'my documents'&'my pictures',after viewing a movie in windows
media player,has to be deleted there first, before the file can be deleted
at the w m p, or the message appears as you stated
