View Full Version : Still cannot stretch screens with XP.

On some program screens (such as Outlook Express) I am
receiving only a half screen display. I have tried to
stretch the screens by attempting to drag the screen to
full size, but XP will not allow me to do this. I receive
the 2 arrows, but the screen will not move.

Do I have a bug in XP or is there a way to override this
problem?

Try putting the mouse pointer at very edge of displaying
folder, when it turns into two arrows,L.click, then drag
the edge of screen to full size,do at all 4 sides.By
default,xp explorer etc,is designed to open as it was
closed,(hence)once in full,it will reopen that way.
Make sure the midle box(min,expand,close)has 1 box,not
2.

Sorry if this obvious... but when you get the double arrow do you then
click with the mouse to "grab" the window edge and then drag?

Also, an alternative method to resize is to click on the icon that is on
the left hand side of the title bar. Select "Size" from the drop down menu
that will appear. At this point the keyboard takes over. Use the arrow keys
to move any edge of the window. Repeatedly press the key until the window
edge is where you want it. Switch to the mouse to "click off" the keyboard
controls. Repeat the steps for any remaining window edge that needs
adjusting.

The only other thing I can think of is that your monitor is not adjusted
correctly. If using wallpaper, remove it for now. If necessary, change the
desktop color to something other than black. Do the edges of the color
reach to the edges of the monitor? (Using black you would not be able to
determine this, that is why I suggest using a different color.)

If no, open windows can only extend to cover the same area that the desktop
occupies. Suggestions to fix/adjust:

-Right click the desktop and choose Properties. On the Settings page, the
size noted for screen resolution is usually a large number proceeded by a
smaller number (width number first, then the height). Is this set correctly
for your monitor? You may need to check the manual for the monitor to find
out what display settings are recommended. Like laptops, some of the new
flat panels will not stretch the desktop to the edges unless you use the
recommended settings.

- If your Windows settings are okay, you may need to adjust the physical
controls of the monitor. There are usually buttons somewhere on the monitor
that bring up various menus controlling different aspects of the screen
output. Use these buttons to expand the desktop to the edges of the
monitor.

Thanks Sharon,

The problem was resolved by using the size option.

Thank You,

John
