I made a back up CD of my programs and want to verify/compare that they are identical. There was a
Compare command in DOS years ago that I used on my floppies. Does it still exist in another term
under XP? Help was NO help.
Thank you,
Jim Y

Jim;
[[Windiff.exe is a tool that can be used for analyzing two files or folders
and making a direct comparison between the two and seeing where any
differences lie.]]
This file is included on your XP CD.
Windows Support Tools on the CD
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/default.asp?url=/windowsxp/home/using/productdoc/en/tools_intro.asp
To install Windows Support Tools
You must be logged on as a computer administrator in order to complete this
procedure.
1. Insert the Windows CD into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Click No if you are prompted to reinstall Windows.
3. When the Welcome screen appears, click Browse this CD.
4. Go to the \Support\Tools folder.
For complete Setup information, refer to the Sreadme.doc file available in
this folder.
5. Double-click Setup.exe.
6. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen

In Roxio CD Creator there is a box you can check under CD Project Properties
to validate the files after writing. I always use it but it does take longer
to read and compare a full CD. It has to be done right after the burn you
can't go back and do a compare later. I'm interested to see if others have a
more general Compare solution.
Nero may have this feature too but I don't use Nero.

You just didn't look at the right section in Help. Open Help and Support,
type Compare in the Search box and press Enter. You will get descriptions
for "Comp" "Discomp" and "FC" with the instructions for running each
utility.

Not in XP HE you don't Ronnie. I did just exactly what you said as I have never attempted the compare feature myself and found no information at all as to how to access the compare feature or what parameters to follow. I'm no beginner either. What I did Er
ic was go>start\run and type in cmd and hit ok to open the command line interface. Now I typed in ? comp and hit ok. This took several tries as the word compare is not a recognized command. You will then get a complete list of parameters that you can e
nter. I hope this helps as help and support sure didn't. Good luck

What you stated is exactly what I did and got nothing found. I got zero results with suggestions
about similar fonts and FAT32, FAt and NTFS.
On my old PC with NT 4, I get Comp in the Help. I think MS screwed up with XP. They put in too
many useless things and omitted the truly useful items.
Thanks,

I down loaded it, but have a business trip to make and won't have time to try it before leaving.
From the write up, it appears to be what I am seeking.
Thank you,
