I learned the hard way.
Do not post in this forum with your real email address. I
posted here on Nov. 22nd and in the last 36 hours I have
received six email attachments with the "W32.Swen.A@mm"
virus. Each time it was an .exe file attached to a
notification of undeliverable email.

To read Symantec's Security Response go here:

To get the the W32.Swen.A@mm Removal Tool go here:

Greetings --

It's been well known for years now that posting/publishing a real
email address to _any_ newsgroup or web site is an open initiation to
be spammed. For years now, spammers have been using automated tools
to harvest email addresses from Usenet. What I don't understand is
why you're just now noticing the phenomenon.

| It's been well known for years now that ...

.... only to those who know about it.

| What I don't understand is why you're just now
| noticing the phenomenon.

.... Probably because the OP had never been spammed before!
Also, you are unaware of the OP's Internet surfing habits.
Also, this newsgroup is for "New Users"!

"...an open initiation..."??? Didn't you mean "invitation"?
What I don't understand is why you didn't notice that, you
top-posting moron.

Greetings --

But how could I possibly have known that a "new user" has also
gone through life without ever reading any newspapers, magazines, or
without ever having seen a television news program?

Hello,

| newspapers, magazines

It is easy to skip or NOT notice articles/advertisements,
especially if the headline/byline does not mention
anything of interest to the reader.

Same applies to electronic news-items.

| television news program...

Sensationalist mis-information. Also find this in
newsletters from IT professionals and even in posts by
"experts" in these newsgroups.

I have never seen any news item specifically about
"posting in any forum with your real email address".

What I don't understand is why you're just now noticing

Your name sounds like an effing disease. You are as welcome and useful as a
case of the clap.
