Because I have a Vigor 2600 Modem/Router for my ADSL
service in Puerto Rico, I have never experienced audio
problem. My son in Florida had no audio and tried with
various Linksys and Microsoft cable routers with no
success. Just today I found the solution.
The information on his Messenger> Tools> Options>
Connection tab> Advanced Connection Information
read ...connected through a non UPnP...etc. If he
accessed Network Connections, it was not divided in two
sections; the top half is supposed to be the Internet
gateway and the lower the Lan or High-Speed Internet (all
enabled). For some reason my son top part on Internet
Gateway was missing. He will follow all Jonathan Kay's
instructions on QoS, XP firewall, Zone Alarm medium
setting, Audio/Video Tunning Wizard ...etc...etc.
This I found fix the problem:
Get from Gibson Research Corp.(http//grc.com) the Plug
and Pray tool and use it to enable UPnP (the letters
should be color red). Exit and restart.
Access the same site on Messenger and this time it should
read ... connected through a UPnP...
Now you can right click the Router Connection>
Properties> Settings under General tab> and deselect all
the msn stuff under Ftp example.
It will work.

Greetings Efrain,

UPnP is by default on -- you'll only encounter this issue if you've actually turned it off
(UPnP is safe by the way, despite what Mr. Gibson might "claim").
