Win XP Pro - sole user - no net

Memory hazy but a few weeks ago when fooling with Drive Image or Ghost it
required that I install some windows feature that - as I recall - had the
word net in it - something about administrator privilege or whatever -
now every time I boot, I have to click on my name before windows will
oad - I no longer need those programs or this feature - how do I remove
it so I go back to my previous immediate boot up.

To thank all
I am

Hi Ron,

I am a little reluctant to say that you should uninstall the .Net Framework
only because the last time I told someone what it was that caused the
"extra" user account, and they uninstalled it, they then discovered that
they needed it for another important-to-them application to run. They then
found that they were unable to reinstall the .Net Framework.

You could follow the directions here to have Windows logon automatically to
your account:

OOOPS - I just tried the fix cited below (marksXP) and WOW - it
rebooted nicely with no requirement that I click on anything - BUT - I
lost ALL my settings - video, audio, mouse - everything looks
ifferent - well over half of desktop icons gone - web start page changed -
etc etc
I would take me probably a full day to get this back the way it was.
Thankfully I was able to reverse the process.

Gee, Patti, there must be a less intrusive way to get ..Net Framework out
of my system?
Delete some files? change the registry? Uninstall? Help!

Regards,
Ron

If you're certain that you won't be needing the .Net framework installed,
then go ahead and uninstall it.

I must say that I have mentioned the marksXP fix to numerous persons, and
none experienced the loss of settings, etc., that you experienced. I'm at a
loss to figure out what could have possibly hiccupped there.

Yes, I agree Patti, the procedure was so simple to follow that there was
little room for error. And it did solve the problem - just created
others. Given the dramatic changes made, I was stunned to be able to go
back easily and perfectly to my previous configurations and settings.

Now, how would you recommend deleting .Net Framework - I can't do it via
control panel.

Hi Ron
After you ran control userpasswords2 and unchecked 'users must enter a user
name and password...' did you leave the username as administrator or change
it to your own username? What it sounds like is you were auto logging on as
the machines administrator account rather than your own.

If you wish to remove the 1.1 framework that can be done through the
add/remove programs item in the control panel. Or you can leave the
framework installed so you have the ability to use .net applications but
delete the aspnet_wp user account in Control Panel > User Accounts (Provided
you do not wish to do any asp.net development work).

http://mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/aspdot.php

Hope that helps

Hi Ron,

There's a feature in tweakUI which is part of Windows XP Power Toys,
that allows automatic logon.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Good luck

Well, I am halfway there. I did as you suggested and went to Control
Panel\User Accounts and found that Aspnet thingie and deleted the rascal.
And Arthur's yer Auntie, I boot up just fine now. A WD Mark.

Now, to cure the 2nd part of the problem. Please to tell how can I totally
purge this .Net Framework from my system and registry? Both you and Patti
mentioned removing it via Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs but nothing
remotely like this is listed there. Suggestions?
