What "smiley face"?

I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's the Assistant...
Try right clicking him and going to options, then
unchecking the button that says "Enable Office Assistant"

If you are not in office, or this isn't it, please write
back with more details.

no, i am not in office. hmmm... let me see....

i installed xp a few days ago. the problem in question has been occuring
ever since i installed. i use XP home. i can view any of the movies if i
"save the target". i use internet explorer 6 , with service packs intalled.
i can view links that lead to a jpeg or other similar image. it is only when
i click on links that lead to movies (unfortunately since i can't view them
i don't know what type of movie file).
does this help?
