We have just got a new computer, when we try and use it is starts up fine
but after a few minutes Windows (XP) shuts down the computer. there is a
message which comes up saying to save all data etc because it is shutting
down but there is no way to stop it from happening (i.e there is no button
on the messagebox to stop it).

Can anyone please tell me how to stop this ... I am sure it is just a simple
setup prob

Thanks in advance
Matt

Just been told by the other half - this only happens when she connects to
the internet -
sorry this wasn't included in the original post

Hi,
Your PC got infected with 'Blaster worm'. Visit the downloads section of
Microsoft site. There you will get a 'Blaster Worm' removel patch for
installation.

Regards
Kumaran

We have only just set up the computer, quite literally straight out of the
box and turned it on and this problem occured. When we connect we don't get
an oppertunity to surf the net and haven't yet set up an email account on
it. Could the worm have been on there from the factory because it would be
the only way it could have got it?

No, you got it on your very first connection with the internet. Happy
surfing.
Use another computer and go to your antivirus software web site. They will
have the patch and removal tool. Download those to a CD or floppy and run
them on the infected pc without going on the web.

If the computer shuts down immediately , then you might be best off to
reformat and reinstall XP . Be sure to turn on the XP firewall before you
connect to the internet. This is probably is why you became infected in the
first place. Jym
