View Full Version : Windows XP Switches Back to Windows Classic Style!

My Windows XP style (windows, task bar, etc.) Switches
Back to Windows Classic Style!
I've looked in the KB and can only find a topic about
customizing windows (settings for "best presentation").
That works for a while, but then I will click something
(an e-mail or item on the desktop) and I get the Please
Wait... message, and the visuals change back to Windows
Classic style! It happens all the time and I've no clue
why.
Anybody know how to fix this other than changing the
settings back to Windows XP Style three or four times a
day?

This sounds like it could be perhaps a faulty stick of memory or other
component- my pc did this for a while then I got those nice blue screens of
death, and it gave up, but it used to just change spasmodically! It was a
real pain in the arse!!! Try some different memory. If that does not work
have you got up to date anti-virus software and all SP's applied to windows?

See if this helps:
Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services/Themes. Set to Automatic.
Also check your settings here:
Start/Administrative Tools/Services/Terminal Services/Log On. At the bottom
ensure that Hardware Profile Original Configuration is Enabled.

Here's what worked for me: install (or uninstall) StyleXP from
www.tgtsoft.com. It's an impressive shareware theme enhancer, but
even aside from the new features it offers, the simple process of
either installing it or uninstalling it cleared up some terrible and
chronic theme problems (black text and background, themes having no
effect, themes applied incompletely, etc.)--even when all the other
fixes (registry changes, restarting the service, logging
off/rebooting, WinDoctor, etc.) failed me completely.
Maybe the theme doesn't need repair because the theme isn't broken or
corrupt (my original thinking)--but Windows is broken in a way that
StyleXP fixes along the way! :^)
That's my experience, anyway--twice now.
Hope this helps someone. And BTW, I do not at all mean to belittle
the other help offered--those suggestions seem to work for a lot of
people. But they didn't for me, whereas this inadvertent discovery
did!
