logon problem

i just tried to set up a direct cable file sharing network
between my laptop [running XP Professional]and my old
desktop [win 98] and now after rebooting, my laptop is
asking for password to logon. i never had a password to
get into either machine.
the user name and password i set up for network does not
work.

can you help please!
