Windows XP just keeps rebooting! First the "Compaq" logo
comes up and then the "Windows XP Home Edition" Then a
blue screen flashes and after that it restarts again and
again and again! There is no end to it!

I have tried safe mode, i have tried bios default
settings, i have tried to unplug the webcam and everything
else exept the power of course put i won't start windows!

I have A LOT of information on my computer so i don't want
that to be wasted. So im no putting in the "recovery cd"

Anyone who can come up with something else!? i can see my
files from DOS so i know everything is there but windows
won't start.

Please help me!

I assume you have an OEM version of XP as you mentioed 'recovery' cd. Then a
Repair is out of the question. Have you changed any hardware/software
recently?

BTW tampering with the BIOS is not normally neccessary, so be careful. You
don't want to upset it further.

Grab the DOS antivirus, and run a virus scan...... (make sure you also
download the upto date virus signatures first)

what does f-prot have that norton does not have?

also, did not XP abandon DOS, so why is it necessary to

XP does have DOS (just not in the literal sense). You'd need the XP boot
diskette (or a 9x one if yiou are using the FAT32 file system)

As for Norton...... no offence but, it's a bloated, unreliable POS (as are
all other Symantec products). I wouldn't use it or reccommend it even if you
paid me.

Because if you can't get into the Windows OS you can't run a Windows
application. F-Prot for DOS will scan a FAT32 drive. I haven't seen an
equivalent DOS based a/v scanner from Symantec in at least a couple of
years.

One problem... Mentioned in another NG: he can't download and run ANYTHING
with the way the computer is doing now. What is needed is the way to get
xp to stay on, once started.
