View Full Version : Time Synchronization

I have a domain with NT 4.0 as the primary server. The
workstations are XP Pro SP1. NT is not recongnized as a
valid time server. When I log in as an administrator and
synchronize the time with an internet time server, the
time synchronizes just fine. But then when a power user,
on the same system logs in, the time reverses to be
validated by the NT server, and is then incorrect.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Install TimeServ.exe from the Resource Kit for NT4 and set up
so that it will check with an NTP time source for the correct time.
The Workstations must be joined to the domain, you can sync them up
by type NET TIME \\server /SET

Also, check that the user's have permissions to set the local time on
their machines. See Local Security policies.

BTW, Windows 2000 Time Service is much better than NT4 so I would
seriously consider upgrading to Windows 2000 Server.
