Have a computer at home running windows xp home edition. Upon analysis, Defragmenter shows disk 27% fragmented. Have defragged, but computer still shows 27% fragmented after reboot and next analysis. Any thoughts?

Have you actually sat in front of the machine while it defrags the hard
drive? It may not be running due to a program running in the background or
some other interference. By the way, 27% fragmented is huge! I once missed
defragging my old Windows 95 machine for six months and it was only 4%
fragmented. After six months of surfing, downloading hundreds of
applications and files of all types it was only 4% fragmented.
