View Full Version : Removing Partitions

Currently I have a dual boot system (ME and XP) together with a software and
a data partition on my main hard drive. I have a second ard drive with
copies of these 4 partitions. ME, of course runs on the C drive, XP on the
L drive. I want to get rid of ME and eliminate the separate partitions for
software and data. Presumably, I will be left with one partition on each of
the two hard drives. Will I have to re-install all my software because the
drive letter for XP will change from "L" to "C"?

If you delete the ME partition, XP won't even boot, as the boot loader code
is on the C: drive. At best you'd have to do a repair installation of XP to
get it working again. If you don't, XP will still think its on L, since
that's where it was installed.

Like Doug said if you format C you will lose the ability to boot.
I was in a similar situation when I dual booted.I had ME on C,XP on D =
and all programs and Data on E and F.I found it easier to format D and C =
as I reinstalled XP into C which of course read all the programs on E =
and created the info in the registry while leaving all the data files =
alone.
