My company required that I upgrade my Dell Inspiron 8200 from XP home to XP
Professional.
I put in the XP professional disk and the upgrade seemed to go O.K. until
the final re-boot. Now I get the error message"

"A problem is preventing windows form accurately checking the license for
this computer. Error code 0x800004005"

It will boot into safe mode but it won't boot Normal mode.
I'd really rather not re-load the whole system and software again

can anybody help?

Thanks

Possible Resolution:

Boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key while rebooting.

Go to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 regwizc.dll , and hit enter.
Then go again to Start > Run and type: regsvr32 licdll.dll , and hit enter again.

Apparently, and I can't say how, the above files became unregistered.

Thanks for the advice. I really appreciated your fast response.

I did end up re-installing it and using the "repair" option. Somewhat to my
surprise it not only repaired it , I was also
able to salvage all of my programs.

Thanks again
