same desktop icons across profiles(user accounts)

Why is it that some desktop icons that I use are also on
the desktops of my family`s profiles, and if I remove them
from their desktops, it says it will affect all users who
log on, and I lose my icon on me desktop...thanks

The desktop icons come from the all users\desktop folder and user's =
name\desktop folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop [Common to all users]
and
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Desktop
