My DirectCD software that came with my HP CD-Writer is
not compatible with Win XP. Can someone recommend an
inexpensive software that will work well with XP and can
be, preferably, downloaded so that I can use it right
away?

I backed up my system before reformatting and installing
XP. Will I have to purchase a newer version of DirectCD
to be able to perform a custom restore?

Thanks!

Roxio now owns directcd & cd creator - if you have version 5 there are free
upgrades at the roxio site.

Thanks, but that's my problem...I have version 1.0. It
came with my CD-Writer that I purchased in 2000 or 2001.

DirectCD is udf format writing software. As such, it only works in windows.
Since you backed up a prior operating system, you cannot restore it to XP.
It matters not whether the CD created can be read or not.
