I have a Brothers MFC4800 printer and need to download the software. Brother's instructions say "make a temporary directory to my HDD, whatever that is,to save downloaded self extracting file e.g..c:\brondt". How do I do this? When I pose this on Microsof
t's help page they show 0 results.

They're just telling you to create a folder to use when installing their
software. They call it a temporary directory because once you're done
installing the software, you can delete the directory.

1. Click Start > My Computer
2. Double click on your C: drive
3. Click the File menu item, then New Folder
4. Name the new folder whatever you want ("brondt" for example), and hit
Enter

Now that you have your "temporary" folder, you can extract and run the setup
of their software

5. Run the file you downloaded, and when it asks you where to extract the
files, choose "C:\<whatever you named the folder in step 4>"
6. Navigate to the directory you created by clicking Start > Run > and type
"C:\<Whatever you named the folder in step 4>"
7. Once the folder opens up, follow whatever other instructions Brothers
has for installing the software
8. When you are finished installing the software, feel free to delete the
directory you created in step 3&4
