View Full Version : Windows XP Pro Printing Issue

None of the installed applications will print, such as Office 2003, Adobe
even WordPad, however I can print a test page from control
panel/printer&fax's by clicking on Printer Properties. PC freezes as soon as
I go to File->Print or press CTRL+P.
I've reinstalled office 2003 and all other applications, no luck. Does
anyone have any logic why? or how to do I even begin to troubleshoot this
issue. I don't want to just reinstall windows.
WinXP Pro SP1
Office 2003 - with the latest service packs
Thanks!

Try reinstalling the driver. Delete the old driver from printers and faxes.
In printers and faxes go to File->Server Properties and click on drivers.
Delete the driver from the list.
Make sure you have the latest driver. See your manuf. web page
Reinstall. If it prompts you to replace old driver, say yes.
If you still have problems, you might try setting the print port (in printer
properties) to a FILE and run the print test. If this works, you may have
some type of hardware setup problem. (bidi port?).

Mao,
Thanks, I did what you've suggested and all of the printers that are
installed on this PC are network printers.... with latest drivers. What
strikes me is that 20 other machines which have the same image are working
fine, accept for that one.

Try configuring the print queue to Print directly to the printer.
Printer Properties / Advanced

> Can anybody help with this...if i configure a printer in xp pro or 2k pro
it prints fine...i am happy with that
> I also have a third party supplied software that needs to print, with this
software all u need to do is tell it which port to print to...the problem is
if a windows printer is configured on the same port it will not print, if I
delete the windows printer then the other software can print to that port so
the port must get locked in some way when a printer is configured
> I have also tested this on XP Home and this does not happen ,I can print
to the same port as the windows printer is configured on, and this is the
same for win95 and 98
> Can anybody explain and even better if I can disable this in XP Pro to
allow the port to be accessed by windows printing and the third party
software
