Windows XP Shutdown

Firstly apologies if this is the wrong user/discussion
group.

When I click START->Turn Off Computer I get the following
options:-

STAND BY TURN OFF RESTART

If I delay in answering, the box with these 3 options in
stays in colour, but the rest fades to black and white.

Is this correct? Should it do this?

I normally click one of the options fairly quickly so
have never seen this before, so dont know if it should be
doing it.

Can someone please advise.

yes.... it is an illusion so the computer thinks it's
nighttime and time to go to sleep.
