XP Fax won't even try to send

Hello Group,
I have a Pavilion XZ series notebook with WXP Pro. I have an ESS Superlink-M
Data-Fax Voice modem (internal). I have sent a fax in the past but now when
I try to send a fax it spools the fax to the outbox of the Microsoft fax
consol but doesn't try to dial at all. It says "fatal error" in the extended
status in the properties for the fax. Every time I click restart the error
status comes back in 5 seconds. The modem works fine to dial up my ISP and
it will open the phone line to received a fax. The event log simply says "An
error was encountered while preparing to send the fax. The service will not
attempt to resend the fax. Please close other applications before
resending." The Event ID is 32079. Microsoft support doesn;t have any info
on this and I have tried the knowledge base articles. The driver is the
latest Microsoft has. HELP!!!! This is driving me crazy. any suggestions
are helpful.

I have a similar problem - my modem (Intel 536EP chipset)
is listed in HCL, and has the latest driver. I've tried
several other fax programs, but have only managed to send
2 faxes in the year since I had my PC. I get "carrier not
detected" - I can hear the modem going OH. I have XP
Home, and a Lexmark X73 all-in-one - I upgraded the
supplied "lite" software that came with my PC, but that
has made no difference.

Am I doomed never to send faxes?

Sorry, I didn't explain that XP fax doesn't send - I
get "carrier unavailable".

Then start at the beginning.
State the analog fax modem you are using and whether it is on the Windows XP
HCL list.
State the steps you are using to send the fax and exactly what happens,
along with all error messages.
I don't understand what the Lexmark has to do with your question. It would
have nothing to do with Windows XP Fax.

Yes, that's just the chipset information. There is no indication as to
whether the modem supports analog fax functions or not. Windows XP Fax
barely works with the modems on the HCL list. It usually does not work with
those not on it.

UPDATE TO MY PROBLEM. The problem with mine was WXP's crappy fax software-I
have done a great deal of research on the fax problem and found that
basically WXP's fax software sucks. The worst part is Microsoft has little
to no information in the knowledge base about the problem-presumably because
there are so many variables. I downloaded MightyFax and was able to fax
perfectly with no additional changes to my hardware or software
configurations. Obviously the problem was WXP's Fax. I have no problem with
paying for working software but if Microsoft is going to half-ass program
features to add fluff to their operating system -then make is solid or just
don't include it and let us buy a working, supported version.
