I just did a "Windows Update" screen on my machine and
came up with several "critical" updates that required
attention.

I updated my machine with the following:

Update Rollup 1 for XP
330994
824145
828035
825119
826939
824105
823182

I noticed that the security patch for the Blaster virus
is 823980. However, this was not included in the
recommended updates for my machine. Likewise, I checked
what was included in "update Rollup 1" and this
particular update (823980) is not included.

I subsequently ran another Windows update on my machine
and it came back with "no critical updates" needing to be
added.

I am a bit concerned and don't understand why 823980
would not have shown up as being needed particularly if
it weren't included in the other updates.

Should I try to install 823980 anyway? Will Windows stop
me from installing if it detects it was already
installed? I just wanted to make sure that I was not
going to cause more problems by trying to installs
something that wasn't being shown as needed, particularly
if it may somehow already be on my machine.

However, I don't think the latter is true since I also
checked the history for what has been updated and did not
find 823980 included.

Any input would be appreciated

Thanks!

Check the contents of the Update Rollup again. 823980 is fifth position in
the list of included patches:
