I have some items in my startup list that I can't get rid of, I even installed a program that monitors after login which new items that want to add themselves to this startup list, so that I can decide wether or not to allow a program to add itself at startup. Nothing prevents them from coming back after each reboot. These programs are:

= PCTVOICE >>>> pctspk.exe
= piiserviceOE >>>>> C:\Program Files\iHATESpam Outlook Express\iHATESpam Outlook Express Edition\piiserviceOE.exe
= wkssb.exe >>>> C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\wkssb.exe
= Works FUD wkfud.exe >>>> C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\wkfud.exe
= ManageDesk >>>> C:\Program Files\ManageDesk\ManageDesk.exe

They all have been removed several times in the registry. Furthermore the folders in program files for iHateSPAM and Manage desk do not exist anymore. Also I get no reply from the companies that distribute "iHate Spam" and "Manage desk"

In "Paul Collins Startup list" these items are not needed at startup

Hi,

Start/run regedit, look for references to those programs here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

Delete subkeys or strings that house the references to unwanted or removed
programs.

Well, as I mentioned in my post, done all this register deleting before over and over and tried it again on the exact register locations as you said and were in fact those references were present. On the next startup all 5 references were back. And of course also back in my start up folder. With exclamation marks for piiserviceOE and Manage Desk >> these folders do not exist any more (because the programs were removed long time ago with their respective uninstallers). Sorry, any other ideas?

Hi,

So, we're obvioulsy missing something that is causing them to reload.
Possibly done with an msi installer. When you removed the programs, did you
delete or uninstall them? Deleting does not remove necessary registry
entries and startup references. If this is the case, you may need to
reinstall them, then uninstall.

Hi,

Aside from the 3 other programs (pctspk.exe has something to do with a modem drive that I uninstalled and the 2 others belong to Microsft Works that I'm not planning to uninstall), I think I uninstalled them as I usually do.
But if I have to reinstall iHatespam and Managedesk to get rid of these 2 sartup items, means that you assume that these companies won't leave anything behind in my startup list if the uninstall is done properly with the original uninstaller ?
I would't be so sure of that. Anyway I'll follow your advise and reinstall them some other time.

Greetings
