I am running winxp pro and made another partition in in my C:/ drive by Partition magic 8.0 and now i have dual booted HD with XP PRO and XP HOME... XP Pro is running fine and XP Home is not running fine cuz the drag and drop function is disable by default
i think it is timed... this starts After 5 mins after the boot... or when i connect to net... i cant drag files on desktop or Windows explorer and i cant also use the function "Open in new window" in Internet Explorer...or when i click the link that will
open in new window, it simply wont respond...i also cannot use the copy and paste function....it wont copy anything and the paste function is unavailable in the menu no matter Ctrl+C/V still the same...and some of the programs will also wont work (e.g. Ser
vices in Administrative tools)...i have installed no programs yet...this is a big problem and yet NO solutions at all. some people say that R-click taskbar>properties>Start Menu>Customize...>Advanced>Check Enable Dragging and Dropping...now thats stupid...
i am NOT talking abt the taskbar at all...somebody also gave me the registry file enabledrag.reg that also is the a fix for Enabling dragging of files of taskbar.....i know its not only me i know many people out there having the same problem but not enough
information to explain to the Experts....well thats all....if there is any expert that can deal with this problem than plz show that ur the real expert...Thanks in advance

You said...

and
>"i have installed no programs yet"...

Does mean you have connected to the internet without Antivirus S/W installed
and without installing Windows updates?

If so this might be the blaster worm. I think that messes with drag and
drop.

This problem is caused by a crush in the RPC service.
I've seen it on Windows XP home, pro and also on Windows Server.
The problem is caused by a hacking tool or a virus similar to msblast.exe
that exploits a volunerability in the RPC Service i.e. hack and infect Your
computer.

Solution:
Before You start the computer unplug any network cabels.
Hold the Shift key during the logon process - this will prevent all programs
in the startup group to execute during the startup.
Enable firewall on Your network connection and Internet.
Install an antivirus program, update it to the latest virus definitions and
run a full system scan.
Go to the windows update website and install all available patches and
service packs.

Some times we have problems or even troubles just because we are trying to
use our PC,
Well, I think that Microsoft MUST be more responsible when writing software.
XP has good look and many inprovements, but it's also a big unchecked buffer
that causes troubles to customers. Not good!

I have done everything you stated, and can't find any bugs, what else could it be? could it be something in the firewall, that is not letting things being shared? I just started using the firewall and never had this problem before, infact I have a nother m
achine that is set up identical, and it has no problems, whats up?
