I recently purchased another computer for my son. Can I
load a second copy of xp for students on to this machine?

No.
Office XP for Students is strictly one license, one computer.
Retail Office XP Professional and most likely Office 2003 Pro allow
installation on a desktop and laptop used by the same person.
Read the EULA for details.

In addition to what JJ has told you 2003 STE allows for installation on
THREE systems (in whatever combination you choose).
