Can I use outlook express for newsgroups and aol for
regular email at the same time? Someone told me I
could'nt. It had to be one or the other.

You can certainly use OE for newsgroups if you sign up for something like
www.individual.net which is a news server that is independent of any ISP.

There's some software that acts as a pop3/smtp server for AOL users,
meaning with this tool you can use AOL mail like every other Internet
user, including picking your own software and working off-line.
