In changing to XP Home, you don't say if it is "pre SP1" or not. If you
haven't updated it to SP1, you need to do that in order to properly take
advantage of USB2. Next, you need to install all the drivers for your
devices. Eg, my external USB2 drive requires that a driver for the cable
that connects the drive to the computer needs to be installed.

There is also an update (not critical one) as the MS update site that fixes
a problem where not all USB2 is available to a USB2 capable computer using
XP Home SP1. That patch may help you.

Lastly, I actually hit your problem on another machine yesterday. Turned out
the USB2 card I was using on that older machine had died. Switched the card
for another and all was well again instantly.

I will try that patch, but the device did not work pre or post SP1. Also, I'm using the Firewire connection, but I'm getting so frustrated I might just switch to USB
