Can anyone point me to a website/book/??? that talks
about "ports" what they are, how they are used, what
numbers mean what and what should I do...in English?

The most obviously question is with reference to your phrase "and what
should I do".
Why do you fell you need to "do" anything.
Are you actually seeking this information because you need to do something ?
If so then please feel free to post your question. It may save you time and
unnecessary study of rather sterile documents that have very little
significance to regular PC users

See C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc\Services in Notepad
for a list of ports.
