Comp run slow

Hi All
My computer has been running very slow for the biggest
part of the morning, and has just in the last 5 mins
decided to speed up which im very happy about. Is there
any software out there that i can use pref shareware that
will keep my computer running at normal speed, and keep
viruses at bay and trojans etc,etc, as i want to make my
computer like fort nox, as im sick of getting viruses and
god knows what else, computer running very slow, not
being able to see the text in the boxes while im on line,
I could get the page but it was blank with just line
spacing visible.
Im new to computing but i do not want to be beaten, Im
using PC Cillan software for stopping viruses is it any

[Malvern]

Run Disk Defragmenter ? It's already on your computer as part of
Windows-xp. May take up to an hour or more and it's best to not be running
other applications.
