After clicking with the right button on the desktop,
the "new briefcase" should appear, but this option has
disappeared. How can I fix that?

Install the free Windows XP version of TweakUI. Download it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
Once installed, open TweakUI and click on Templates. You can select items
there to add or remove from the right click/New menu.

Thanks for your help, but unfortunately in the
mentioned "template" - window from tweak UI there is no
briefcase either. Any other hint?

Manuel
Go to Start/Run and type: syncapp and press OK.
This should place the Briefcase back on the desktop.

I had the same problem, and your solution worked for me, too - it placed a "My Briefcase" icon on the desktop. However, I still do not have the Briefcase option when I right-click on the Desktop and choose New. I tried using the Templates option in TweakUI, but it is not there, either. I used to have this option on the New menu, but it's disappeared. Any ideas on how I might reinstall it? Thanks for your help in advance.
