Cant get microphone to work

hi i am trying to setup my new microphone but when i run
the set up wizardt does not seem to be picking up my
speech when recording and i cant get my sound manager to
open any suggestions on how to re-install sound manager
without the windows xp software disk ?? and any
suggestions how to check that my microphone is not
muted ??

Greetings:

Sound could be disabled in Group Editor; see in:
Start\Run\Gpedit.msc\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows
Components\NetMeeting\Audio and Video\directives should be; Not Configured.

To check that microphone is not muted:
Control Panel\Sound and Audio Devices\Voice Tab\Voice recording volume
bar\see that microphone volume control is checked.. if it is not available,
go to Options menu\Propeties\check recording\in Show the following volume
controls\see if Audio CD, Recording and Input Line are checked\accept...
Also in Voice tab click on hardware test bar and follow the Test Assistant
instructions.
