View Full Version : Viewsonic VX700 LCD display problems with Radeon 9700 Pro

I have a brand new system - ASUS P4G8 Deluxe, P4 2.53
GHz, 1 Meg RAM, Sapphire Radeon 9700 Pro and a Viewsonic
VX700 LCD panel, using DVI cable. I installed the latest
ATI drivers as recommended. I have the monitor set at
1280x1024 as recommended. Color quality is at 16 bit, as
the display will go to 24 bit at the highest, but only 16
or 32 bit are available options.
The problem --- at varying intervals, the display will
freeze, then the screen goes to what I would call the old
VGA type display ... I don't know the technical term, but
everything is huge, and the graphics are all blotchy. I
also get a Windows System Error telling me to save info
and restart. I can still use the computer, but obviously
have to restart to reset the video quality, which it does
with no problem. Sometimes this happens twice in an hour,
other times I can have it running for several hours with
no problem. It seems to happen mostly when using IE.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is any other info
required to help anyone figure out what the problem is? I
love my new system, but this problem is driving me crazy!

Doublecheck your video card driver settings. Also make sure that if your
video card has a fan on it that it is working.

What settings should I double check? I looked at
everything under all tabs on the advanced button on
display properties, and everything looked correct to me,
and yes, it did show that I have the latest ATI drivers
installed.

As far as the fan is concerned, I don't think it's
that .... my system has been running now for about 5
hours and the problem has not occurred. I have 4 fans in
total in this system, and a 420W power supply.

Hi,

What applications made your PC to be freezed most; playing
games, on-line games, CD/VCD/DVD playing, etc?
If yes, your sound card may be the culprit. Try update
your sound card drivers with the latest XP compatible
drivers.

I have the same problem.

It took me many hours to uncover documentation on this
issue. From I've read, this is a design flaw in the Nvidia
chip. According to Viewsonic, Nvidia did not design the
chip according to current DVI specifications and hence it
does not work correctly with the DVI on the Viewsonic. Of
course, Nvidia is blaming it on the monitor. I've not
been able to find a fix to this either other than going
analog.
