Inactive Icons

When I reloaded my operating system, I lost the ability
to "Hide inactive icons" in the notification area of the
taskbar. I went to "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties"
menu and clicked on "Hide Inactive Icons" but that did
not solve the problem. Any suggestions?
