I have an HP DAT tape drive which is recognised by the built-in Windows
backup software (XP Pro)

Unfortunately it insists that no tape is installed even when there is and so
won't progress to backing up.

Anyone know why, please?

Hello

You need to find out from HP if it is supported by XP

Yep it is the HP Surestore 24 and HP provide WinXP drivers for it. Has
anyone been successful in using it with the XP Pro Backup program?

No Jerry I Am using Seagate STT2000 with Firmware Upgrade, I Can make one
backup, and then the program stops, It continues Searching for Backup Set.
Unable to Append to a tape. Unable to schedule backup, Seagate Diagnostics
performs flawlessly.

I am ready to give up on tape. But CD backup is not much better. Plus I like
20GB Tape
