Downloading video files (avi wmv yenc mpeg) from newsgroups using Outlook Expr

When I try to download a file such as .avi .yenc or wmv
from newsgroups using Outlook Express I get a group of
letters and symbols .The program appears to be reading
the file as .text (.News?).The Outlook Express program
also does not allow me to open the download into Windows
Media Player. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Please
reply to my E-Mail if possible. Thank you

Use a specialized binaries newsgroup newsreader instead of Outlook Express.
I use and recommend Xnews- freeware: http://xnews.newsguy.com/
Helpful information about how to use Xnews: http://xnews.newsguy.com/sizer/
Xnews requires no install- just drop it into a folder and launch it.

sounds like you are not downloading the FIRST part of the file but some other part.
for YENC, you need a decoder, try YProxy from
www.brawnylads.com

I have not tried it, but xnews apparently now has built-in yEnc
decoding.

It is a bitch to do this on OE because you have to combine the posts then
open them. It is extremely hard to tell if all the parts are there. I use OE
for text and Agent for binaries as it puts them together for you.
