Hi,
Having problems with XP fax - Whenever a fax is sent is
spits one out on our fax machine too. We only use it for
sending faxes to save paper and use the fax machine to
receive and send certain stuff.
Have been right through configuration of modem, fax and XP
and cannot find anywhere that it can be turned off.
Please help.
Thanks

You would need to specify those configurations as well as the method by
which you are sending the fax just to get us started.

Thanks for the quick response. No matter what I'm sending
the fax from it does this. The way I'm sending
is 'file' 'print' either in Word, Excel or Quickbooks and
then I select fax. This then takes me through the wizard
normally and sends ok to destination. Just sends a copy
to the fax machine.
The XP fax is only set up to send and not receive. There
is a dial up modem which is being used as internet - so
obviously we can't send when on the internet. The fax
machine is set up seperately and on it's own seperate
phone line (Not connected to the PC).
I hope this gives you enough info to help out - and thanks
again for the quick response. Hope to hear back soon.

I don't understand. If your fax machine is on a separate phone line and not
connected to your PC in any way, the only way it could be getting a copy is
that you've included its phone number among your recipients.

Hi Russ,
It's the same phone line with 2 numbers. The only way
it's connected is 2 plugs in the same phone plug hole.
We're definately not including ourselves as a recipient.
I've checked all default settings on the modem settings
and fax settings.
I don't understand either.

Aha. Sharing the same line with a splitter?
Now you tell me. No wonder.

So . . . Are you going to share a fix?
Do I unplug or disable the fax machine from the jack when
sending? Is this the only way?
Thanks

Sorry, I have no fix. This is not a problem with the Windows XP software or
its configuration. It is a hardware problem. I have no clue how your
splitter/fax machine works or is configured.

there should be a setting in your fax machine to only receive faxes that
ring the phone line, nothing to do with your computer, can't remember the
exact term it gave to it, but i remember having the same problem a few years
ago
