View Full Version : CRC Error

When installing a new program I often get CRC
errors "blahblah doesn't match the file in the
setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running
the setup may be corrupted". I can get through them
by "ignoring" or "skipping", but this doesn't seem right.

Any idea what this means? I am running a legit version of
Windows XP Pro/Office XP on MSI KT74A / AMD XP 2400 / 512
MB RAM / 8x/32x Samsung CDRW.
Thanks, Brian

This kind of error can be caused by a badly burned CD, a damaged or dirty
CD, a cdrom drive that needs cleaning. It can also be a sign of an aging
CDrom drive limping along the best it can. If cleaning the cd or cdrom drive
doesn't help, try copying the CD to the hard drive and running the install
from there.

NOTE: It sometimes helps with a few of the more problem prone installations
to turn off the antivirus program temporarily. Scan the installation media
for viruses before disabling the protection.
