XP Display Problem

Had to re-boot my Windows XP home computer because it was
not responding. When XP came up, it said an error had
occurred, and I selected to boot in Last Known Good mode.

The display now has a minimum screen resolution (800x600)
and color depth (4 bit).

A RUNDLL dialog box was shown with the following message:
error loading C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\NvCpl.dll A dynamic
link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

I went to display properties, but could not change the
screen resolution or color depth. I have a 19" KDS
monitor that is recognized by XP as a Plug-n-Play monitor.

Does anyone have an idea how to get my display back to
1200 x 1000 resolution and 16 or 32 bit color depth?

Nvcpl.dll is part of the nVidia drivers. May need to reinstall those.

For the monitor, check for an INF file at the manufacturer's website:
http://www.kdsusa.com/supports/

If found, download, then right click and select Install. This will add
information about your monitor to your XP setup and should stop it from
displaying as a generic plug and play device.

Reinstall the video drivers. If you do not have them on CD, get the
appropriate replacement from the chip or card manufacturer's WEBsite.

If you are unfamiliar with this process, it may be easiest to enlist help
from one who is.
