Cannot install any new hardware

HI

I am using windows XP and I have bought a Netgear PCI
ethernet card and a PCI TV card both when I try to
install a windows error comes up saying that error during
installation, I have tied installing the same hardware on
one of my families pc's running XP Home aswell and it
worked fine, is there something wrong with the registry?
