Hi folks,
I'm guessing this is just a glitch with the service, but it's unusual for me
not to be able to login to MSN Messenger (the service has been down since I
woke up, so for over an hour).
I am living in Brazil, and when I try to login I get either an 0x81000301 or
0x81000306 error. When I follow the status links in the error, or try to
access http://messenger.msn.com, http://messenger.msn.com/Status.aspx, or
http://messenger.msn.co.uk (just to test), I get timeouts on the web pages.
All my other normal pages are fine, and ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant
Messenger and Eyeball Chat login fine.
Does anyone know of another way to check the MSN status?
....
Another couple of questions:
Is there a simple and elegant way to prevent Window's Messenger from
loading? I posted about this before but didn't get a useful response
unfortunately. I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't spot that Window's (XP)
Messenger and MSN Messenger conflict after a fashion and it isn't necessary
to run both on a system.
I have tried telling Window's Messenger not to start, and also not to
sign-on, but it still does both! Now even the tray icon doesn't show, so I
can't tell it is running, short of going to Task Manager. MSN Messenger is
running pretty much OK.
My short term solution is to rename the C:\Program Files\Messenger folder to
C:\Program Files\MessengerDead, which works fine but isn't particularly
elegant.
....
I'm also having some other login problems which started a few days ago. All
my other IM clients, listed above, start and login when Window's starts. MSN
Messenger is also configured to do the same, and I can see it trying to
login, but after a first attempt it stops. If I then manually connect
(assuming the service status is OK) it logs in without a problem. I have
disabled all my other IM clients, but MSN Messenger still has the same
problem.
Anyone have any ideas why this would be?
My Internet connection is running through a Linksys router to a DSL modem,
and as already mentioned all my other chat clients are fine.
TIA
Mark
