Video Projector shows only background

[A Mills]

I have connected a video projector to my Dell laptop.

When I turn the laptop on I see the XP Pro startup
screens, but when the desktop loads I only see the theme
picture, no icons.

Running a program will not show through the projector
either.

Hardware:
Dell Inspiron 2650.
Gefore 2 Go.

Do I need to change any setting to get the correct output?

Try lowering the resolution on the laptop of something obsecenly large and
see if this improves.
