System Information Error

Hi,

Running XP Home w/SP1: If I access system information I recieve the
following error:

Can't collect information Cannot access the Windows Management
Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.

In checking services, the Windows Management Instrumentation is started.

Any help in troubleshooting this is greatly appreciated.

Nospam,

By any chance do you have "RegSafe" installed on your system? If so, it
will cause the problem you describe and the only solution I found is to
uninstall the program. There may be other software out there that makes
the same system changes as "RegSafe" and could conceivably cause the
problem.

If you recently installed any new software, I would suggest using
"System Restore" to roll back to a point prior to the installation and
see if the problem is corrected.

Hi Sir George,

I do not have RegSafe installed.

I did look at the jsiinc link and it essentially said the same thing I
already looked at, that the windows\system32\wbem\repository folder was
corrupted. I stopped the WMI service, deleted the files in the repository
folder and one additional folder that was in the repository folder, rebooted
the machine and no luck.

I also ran a SFC to no avail.

Is a reinstall (upgrade mode) the only option left?

btw, I attempted to use system restore and it could not use the last restore
point.

The last hardware/sfotware install was ASPI 4.71
