View Full Version : Stopping automatic printing

Hi
Is there any way I can set my computer to never execute pending print jobs
by default? I know I can select 'pause printing', but I don't want to have
to do that every time I switch on the PC.
In case it's relevant, the reason I want to do this is that I'm normally on
the PC after people in the house are in bed, so I want to send print jobs to
the queue but I don't want the printer to begin printing until I tell it to,
which will be the next morning when everyone is awake. Thanks very much in
advance.

I don't believe that's something that is built into XP.... it would normally
be part of a Server O/S, but I'm sure you're probably not thinking of moving
to Windows 2003 Server anytime soon.
There may be some third party software out there that may do the trick, but
I don't know of any.

Oh well. Thanks anyway, Cari.

That doesn't work directly, but you can set the printer to be available e.g.
only from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, then you can queue up jobs to your heart's
content, and they'll start printing at the specified time. Use the Printer
Properties' Advanced tab, the radio button in the top left corner.

Ah, that could be well worth a shot. Thanks very much, Robert! I have
actually discovered another method too, which is simply to keep the printer
switched off...all pending print jobs seem to be saved even after reboots.
Your solution would be better though.
