Have you checked for updated firmware from the drive manufacturer?

this is apparently an HP CD-R/RW. i downloaded the only
XP driver update they had for my 8775c pc which turned out
to be for a samsung cd r/rw. when i tried to install it
the system refused saying it was not the correct one for
the unit.
haven't been able to check for response from HP as after a
week of my cable modem working fine with XP it now refuses
to acknowledge its' existence. i am accessing this
newsgroup from an older pc running windows 98 through this
very same cable modem.
am i getting frustrated ??..... just a little
