View Full Version : Dila up networking has vanished

Had a few probs with Windows XP Pro and used "repair" which fixed everything
except that now my "Connect to" icon in the start menu has disappeared and
trying to create a new connection the dial up option is greyed out and only
broadband is selectable (which I haven't got!). The modem is fine, I can
query it and it is working on the dual windows that I have set up to be able
to send this post.
I don't want to have to load all my software again on this dual system as it
will take a day at least. Can anyone give me a clue to get my DUN back
please?

See http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, Line 87, left column.
This small REG file should restore the dial up option, to your options. The
Connect To is added by the installation of SP1, so if you haven't
reinstalled SP1 that is the cause of it missing.
To use the REG file, download it to your hard disk and double click it.
Answer yes to the import prompt. REG Files can be viewed in Notepad.

Thanks for the help, installing SP1 got it all back so didn't need the Reg
fix. I can't say I understand what happened because the second XP load that
I installed on the same PC to try and get my connection back worked fine
without SP1!

Doing a 'repair' install undoes SP1, but I suspect somewhat imperfectly.
