I had windows xp professional running for a few days without problems. Last
night the last time. No change on my part since then. This morning the
desktop (that is where the XP Pro is) does the POST, it comes to the
desktop, it checks the NOD32 Anti Virus program, it shows the desktop and
all icons, then it starts reboot.
Shutting the machine down for awhile and then starting up results in the
same.
This is a new system Intel 4 , 2.8Ghz 512 MB and Win XP Pro.
Also, pressing F8 does not get me to Safe boot like I can on this laptop
with Win XP Home.
How can I do that?
Thanks in advance

After POST, start tapping F8 repeatedly, about a tap every half second.

I tried Safe mode. Did not fix it.
Last Known good installation did work. But I had to go to Safe Mode and
Command prompt to get there (Restore I mean)
Thanks for suggestions

As soon as you see the POST mention the hard drive, start tapping the F8
key. I wouldn't bother with Safe Mode first off. Try "Last known good
configuration" first. Normally that fixes it in one painless hit.
