I'm running XP Home on a Dell 4300 (18 months old). Since
having a corrupted hard disc index problem, my USB
devices don't reconnect on reboot. I have to unplug them
(power off the hub)and plug them back in and they are
then recognized. They worked fine before the index
problem. I've fixed the index problem by adding a new
disc and 'ghosting' it from the old disc. But I still
have the re-connect problem with the USB devices.
I'm thinking about using the XP repair feature, which I
believe re-installs XP but doesn't destroy data. I'm not
sure how to use it and I don't want to re-format the hard
drive. Too much effort went into installing all the apps
and other features.
